On Saturday, December 19th from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, the International Peace Light will come to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in West Lafayette (535 W State St, West Lafayette, IN 47906) and will be distributed to guests in a drive-thru capacity complete with a written program to enjoy songs, scripture, prayer, video, and more from the comforts of your own car/home. This is a public, non-denominational event. The Message of Peace and Hope can be shared with anyone.

Cars should enter on Sheetz and then drive straight through to Marstellar, so that any queued cars will be in the parking lot and not the street.

Please bring windproof candle or lantern to receive the Peace Light and a message of peace. Everyone attending the ceremony is asked to wear a mask since you will be exiting your car momentarily to get the light. You are encouraged to share the light with others that you take from the event.

The image shown in this email is available as a patch and can be ordered here for $3.00 per patch.

The council is currently working on events in DeMotte and Logansport. There will be an event in Kokomo on December 21st. If your community would like to coordinate a ceremony, please contact Bryon Haverstick @ .

HISTORY

For over 29 years the Peace Light from Bethlehem has been spread throughout Europe by the cooperation of the Austrian Broadcasting Company – ORF (Linz), Austrian Airlines and the Austrian Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. Beginning in 2000, it has been flown to the United States and was taken to Ground Zero in New York in 2002.

The Peace Light is a continuous flame and originates in the grotto where the Christ Child was born in Bethlehem and is delivered by a young Austrian child to the Austrian Airlines where it is placed in two blast proof miners lamps and flown from Tel Aviv, Israel to Vienna, Austria. Here the light is then distributed throughout 20 European countries and overseas, including North America, via land routes and the Austrian Airlines as a symbol of peace.

Here is a local story from the 2018 Peace Light Ceremonies.
